Do you think it is a good idea to make yourself stand out in front of college coaches by getting the rebound, dribbling past the point guard, ignoring a wide open shooting guard, into traffic of 3 or 4 defenders and forcing up a shot?
If you do, I hope you have other talents and skills besides playing basketball.
I have personally been in a gym with dozens of women college basketball coaches and seen players do this very thing.
I read an article by Mark Lewis of ESPN Hoopgurlz. basketball is a former womens college basketball coach. He documented what college coaches look for while recruiting. Here is a summary from Image, Court Demeanor Important to Talent Evaluators that covers this very subject of what not to do while playing in front of college coaches and recruiters.
'College coaches can pick out players that's out to "get theirs." It's obvious when a player is putting up shot after shot and not putting the team first. However, if your coach is telling you to shoot the ball, then shoot the basketball But if you are known as the "black hole", it's time to think about shot selection. College coaches are not very impressed with this type of play and performance.'
Don't try to get a college coaches attention by ball hogging. -Have good shot selection. Pass the ball. Rebound the ball. Basically, be a team player. Believe me. If you have what a college coach is looking for......you got their attention.
